One of the things that aerial photographs and HD aerial video is good at is an easy inspection of property and roofs. With aerial video, there is no need to get to construct scaffolding or to get the ladders out.
Without any restrictions such as are imposed with vehicular masts, we can progress around the property with ease as you need or from agreed heights where you can get different perspectives.
The images from our HD camera are clear and easy to visualise. The video can be taken immediately, uploaded to a laptop and the results seen immediately. If the aerial photos or aerial video needs to be taken again then it is a simple matter to pilot the remote control hexacopter again.
Total Video Productions Ltd use hexacopters and oktocopters for the simple reasons that they can lift the heaviest camera gear, can remain in the air for the longest and because they are extremely stable and can hover effectively, even compensating for the wind, they take amazing aerial photos and aerial videos.
Frequently, the cause of a roof failure is a lack of proper maintenance and inspection. Periodic roof inspections and routine maintenance to correct deficient conditions can significantly increase the long term service life of any roof system. A regularly scheduled maintenance program will avoid expensive emergency costs that can arise without maintenance. Total Video Productions provide annual (or ad-hoc) inspections to help avoid roof failure and unnecessary and expensive roof repairs.
Walk on or aerial thermal roof inspections, we conduct the most accurate reports in the industry. Even experience roofing companies may fall short on seeing what is underneath the top layer. Pin pointing leaks, checking for hidden moisture is very difficult with out using a commercial thermal camera.
Many roofs need to be prematurely replaced because of moisture damage from leaks or improper installation. Infrared (IR) thermography has a proven track record in finding damaged portions of roofing structure so they can be repaired before water damage rots the roof. Thermography is a non-contact testing method and facilitates assessment of Flat Roofs, Tar, Shingle, Metal, Shake or Membrane. 10,000 sq’ to several million sq’.
Aerial Thermal Inspection:
The darker blue thermal signature shows moisture.
Internal Thermal Inspection:
Obviously, if we have the equipment to do an aerial thermal inspection then we can also deliver an internal thermal inspection. This is particularly interesting as the external aerial thermal photo results can be directly correlated to the internal photo results. Some examples are below;
The yellow thermal signature is water sitting inside the ceiling between membrane roof and metal panels. This is approximately 40 feet from the floor.
The blue thermal image is water inside of the plywood ceiling. This moisture is not visible. This is approximately 30 feet from the floor.
Our aerial roof inspections are conducted by remote control helicopter (hexacopter and octocopter). This provides us with valuable time to take accurate images at a low cost to our customers. By helicopter it takes approximately 30 minutes once we arrive and setup.
It is estimated that up to 40 percent of all commercial roofs will develop leaks within the first year of service. The average life span of these roofs is seven to ten years, but they can last as long as twenty years if they are correctly installed and property maintained. Commercial roof maintenance is a vital part of keeping your property investment performing for you instead of costing you on repairs.
We can easily detect failures in low slope commercial roof systems. Infrared roof inspections are fast and affordable, and they provide accurate observations of the condition of an existing roofing system. Our team is capable of evaluating up to 300,000 SF of roof area in a single visit via our walk-over method, or millions of square feet by utilizing remote control helicopters. Infrared imaging stands above all other methods in prolonging the life of a commercial roof system. Infrared roof inspections are a non-contact and non-destructive testing method to determine active roof leaks. The infrared camera allows a professional thermographer to scan large areas of the roof from a distance. Traditional roof inspection methods require a time-consuming grid type contact search (capacitance testing) that involves drilling holes (core sampling) in the roof membrane. This inspection method is definitely not recommended!
Infrared roof inspections work on the principle that different materials in the roof have different thermal masses. In the daytime, the sun heats the roof structure. After the sun sets, the roof begins to cool. If there is a leak in the roofing membrane, the insulation inside the roof will become wet. The wet insulation has a higher thermal mass than the rest of the dry roof structure. Because of the difference, the “wet” areas will maintain heat energy longer than other areas, providing the infrared inspector with a clear picture of the damaged areas.
We provide a written report that includes the aerial photographs Infra-Red images and digital photos of each “anomaly” or fault found during our visit. In addition, we will mark each suspect anomaly on the roof so it can be easily assessed and/or repaired by a licensed roofing company.
